Welcome to Week 11 of Your Pregnancy:
What’s Happening During Week 11?
Week 11 is the first week that your Baby is officially described as a fetus. During the weeks leading up to week 11, the embryonic stage of your pregnancy, your Baby has seen it’s most dramatic changes and has developed over 200 kinds of different cells.
Your Baby’s ears are moving up and to the sides of the head. The reproductive organs are developing quickly too. The external genitalia is visible as a small nub that represents either a penis or a clitoris.
Although your Baby is growing rapidly and is a little over 1.5 inches long, the head is still large in comparison to the rest of the body and comprises half of the Baby’s length. It’s now possible for Baby to suck its’ thumb. During an ultrasound appointment, parents often ask if it’s normal that the baby rests and then bounces and kicks its legs. This is a pre-programmed reflex that prepares baby for much later in life when they learn to walk, it’s completely normal.
What Are Your Feeling This Week?
Mom’s will start to experience weight gain and fatigue may still be a problem. If you have been suffering from morning sickness you may be starting to feel better and may worry that something is wrong, rest assured that this is a common time for morning sickness to disappear.
Around this week, you may have your first antenatal visit. At the appointment, your medical history will be taken, usually your urine is tested, blood work is done, weight and blood pressure are recorded and your doctor may go over any questions you have about pregnancy.
