Welcome to Week 9 Of Your Pregnancy
What Is Happening With Baby This Week?
The embryonic tail is shrinking and will soon be gone so this week your Baby is starting to look less like a tadpole and more like a human and is about one inch long or about the size of a grape. The heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form. The head is still quite large in comparison with the body and is tucked forward towards the chest. Some of baby’s organs have formed such as the pancreas, gallbladder and the intestines are growing longer. The ovaries and testes have formed although external genitals cannot be distinguished. The eyes are fully formed and now the eyelids are fused shut and won’t open again until somewhere around 24weeks and with our new 4D technology we see the eyes open even earlier. Tiny earlobes can be seen, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. Fingerprints are already there under the skin. At nine weeks the nervous system is developing and 2 1/2 half million neurons per minute are formed. The embryo’s body starts to twitch. These movements stimulate muscle and joint strength and are involuntary spasms at this point in development. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the very important task of producing hormones.
What Is Happening With You This Week?
You may feel as if your waistline is thickening a bit and that morning sickness is now in full force. Your hormones contribute to these feelings of sickness and also for your mood swings. It’s natural to have moments fraught with worry about becoming a parent. Some women have these experiences and some do not so don’t worry if you do not have these symptoms. Every pregnancy can be different.
